Optimizing Web Sites for Search Traffic
Mohit Srivastava, Co-founder and CTO of Faves.com5:30pm-7:00pm, Redmond, WA
Free event
Baidu earns a $1 million a day from advertising search revenue—Google makes $2 million dollars an hour. How do these systems work? How can websites best use their search advertising budget? How can sites get “free” referrals from search engines? First we’ll discusses how search sites catalog the internet (spidering, PageRank, indexing) and price their advertising offerings. Then we’ll cover how Web sites optimize both their paid advertising campaigns and Web design strategies to maximize traffic from search. Topics include 1) using Google Analytics to understand and convert traffic, 2) enhancing discoverability through Webmaster tools and 3) examples of what to do, and what not to do, in optimizing sites to show up in search results.
Speaker: Mohit Srivastava is co-founder and CTO of Faves.com (formerly BlueDot), a site helping millions of people discover new, highly relevant Web sites based on their personal interests. Since 2005, Mohit has led the company’s engineering and search engine marketing organizations, achieving early industry leadership in social bookmarking, micro-blogging, and tag clouds innovations. In 2007, the company was selected as one of TechCrunch’s 15 “Web 2.0 companies I couldn’t live without” along with Skype, Flickr, and Pandora. The Seattle Startup Index frequently ranks Faves.com in its top 10, along with Zillow and Farecast, out of 299 technology businesses profiled. Prior to Faves.com, Mohit worked at Microsoft delivering key technical innovations for the Internet Information Server and Operations Manager businesses. He is an alumni of Carnegie Mellon University.
Note: NO RSVP REQUIRED. It turns out the event sign-up list does not accept annonymous registration, so don't worry about RSVP, feel free to just come, there is plenty of seating available.
